Everyone loves a good summer fair. It’s the perfect opportunity to step away from our everyday lives and enter a magical and fun world full of games, rides, and of course, face painting! Here are some basics on face painting , and how to make the most of your designs.
The most common and most accessible type of face paint is acrylic paint. It can be applied using a brush or sponge for a quick and easy application. There are a number of colour combinations that are perfect for summer fairs - bright, vibrant colours like red and yellow, or pastel hues like pink and blue.
When planning your face painting designs for a summer fair, think about what's trending in the kids world currently, and of course you can never go wrong with classic designs. Here are a few popular face painting ideas for the summer fair that are sure to impress your guests.
Rainbow face painting designs
Rainbows come in all shapes and sizes, and so do rainbow face paint designs! There’s an option for every taste and skill level.
Butterfly and Ladybird face painting
Butterflies and ladybirds are iconic symbols of summer, and make for beautiful designs. You can also try adding additional elements to your butterfly face paints to make them more interesting. For example, you could try adding a border around the butterfly wings, or add a single flower to the centre of the butterfly's body. Get creative!
Under the sea face painting ideas
Mermaids, fish and magical under the sea designs have been a popular theme for quite some time, and there are plenty of ways you can go about creating your very own under the sea design.
Choose bright and vibrant colours and add gemstones or glitter to add a little extra sparkle to the design.
Flower face painting
Looking for something a bit more dainty? Flower designs are a great option. There are tons of different flowers to choose from. Unless you are a naturally creative person, you can simply copy designs you see on the web.

Superhero face painting ideas
Superheroes are always a popular option. There are tons of different superhero designs to choose from. For example, you can pick a classic Batman design or a Wonder Woman design. For extra bonus points, add paint to the hands if it completes the superhero outfit.
You can also go with something a little more unique and out of the box, such as an Alien or an Iron Man design. Remember that superheroes typically wear darker colours such as black and red. Add some silver and gold accents to your designs for added sparkle.
Animal face painting ideas
Animal face paint designs are a popular option. There are tons of animals to choose from, each with their own colour palette. Pretty soon, you’ll have a whole zoo of animals running around the school playground! 😆
